Edinburgh: Scotland leg-spinner Abdaha Maqsood has ruled out of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin later today with a curtain-raiser between hosts England and Sri Lanka.
According to Cricket Scotland, the 27-year-old fractured his arm during the mega-event’s warm-up win over Pakistan at the Country Grounds in Derby on Tuesday.
Following this, Yorkshire’s right-arm fast bowler Hannah Rainey has been included in the Scotland team instead of Maqsood.
“Abdaha Maqsood has been ruled out of our ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign due to injury after sustaining a fractured arm in our win over Pakistan,” the cricket body said in a brief statement.
“Yorkshire’s Hannah Rainey has replaced Aptaha in the squad.
“Everyone at Cricket Scotland wishes Abdaha a speedy recovery.”
Scotland, who are drawn in Group 2, will open their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against Ireland on June 13, before taking on the West Indies at Headingley in Leeds on June 18, before also hosting a match against former champions England on June 20.
Their remaining group-stage matches are scheduled to be played against New Zealand and Sri Lanka on June 23 and 26 respectively.
The European team enters the mega-event with the desired momentum after beating the Netherlands and Bangladesh to win a home T20I tri-series earlier this month, and followed it up with wins over the Dutch and Pakistan in warm-up matches.
