Manchester: Captain Kathryn Price backed up her half-century with an economical 2/19 to help Scotland beat Ireland by 40 runs in the second match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Ireland skipper KP Lewis’ decision to field first backfired as Scotland amassed a mammoth total of 161/5 in 20 overs thanks to a century-plus partnership from captain Kathryn and wicketkeeper batsman Sarah Price.
The skipper led Scotland’s batting charge with a blistering half-century and top score of 60 off 39 balls, studded with six fours and a six.
He was amply supported by wicket-keeper batsman Sarah, who made a vital contribution with a blistering 49 off 35 balls with four fours and a six.
The pick of Ireland’s bowlers was Ava Canning, who took three wickets for 27 runs from her four overs, while Arlene Kelly and Aimee Maguire claimed a scalp each.
Chasing a tough 162-run target, Ireland could muster 121 runs before bowling out in 19.1 overs, making for a scrappy start to their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.
Right-handed opener Amy Hunter anchored Ireland’s 39 off 36 balls to remain Ireland’s highest score, followed by Arla Prendergast’s 23-ball 33.
Apart from them, only Kelly (15) and captain Lewis (11) managed to score double figures against a Scotland bowling attack led jointly by Fraser and Gordon who claimed three wickets each.
The pair were supported by captain Price who took 2 wickets for 19 runs in his 3.1 overs. For his all-round exploits, he was adjudged Man of the Match.
Notably, Scotland recorded their first win in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup by 40 runs.
