MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be allowed to accompany his parents on India’s overseas tours, following his maiden senior international call-up.

After the Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign, the 15-year-old dominated the batting ranks in India’s T20I squad for Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games.

Suriyavanshi is currently participating in a tri-series with India A in Sri Lanka.

“His father will fly to Sri Lanka today,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on Sunday.

“If his parents want to accompany him to England and Ireland, we will make arrangements for their travel. They will be a strong support system for him.”

Three-time T20 World Cup champions India will face Ireland in Belfast on June 26 and 28 before taking on England in a five-match T20I series starting on July 1.

The Asian Games will be held in Japan in September and October.

Suryavanshi earned national selection after a sensational IPL season with Rajasthan Royals, where he was the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 776 runs.

The left-handed opener recorded one century and five half-centuries during the campaign and claimed the Orange Cap, the Most Valuable Player award and the Emerging Player of the Tournament award.

He also became India’s youngest international cricketer, breaking the record of legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
