Dhaka: Several members of the Australian cricket team were not allowed to play at the golf course in Dhaka on their scheduled day off, more due to a lack of communication than security concerns, according to Bangladeshi media reports.
The Australian players had planned to play a round of golf during their vacation and had reportedly sought permission from golf course officials beforehand.
However, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official said initially only a small number of players were expected to participate in the outing.
Shortly before arrival, additional crew members expressed interest in joining, prompting arrangements for a larger vehicle and expanded crew.
According to Bangladeshi media, players whose names were not included in the original permit request were denied entry upon arrival at the stadium.
The golf course is located within a military controlled area where prior authorization is mandatory for all visitors.
Reports indicated that not every member of the expedition party had obtained the necessary permits, leading to access issues.
Local media have insisted that the incident was not linked to any security concerns, but instead resulted from a lack of clear communication and administrative coordination between the parties involved.
Meanwhile, Australia will begin their tour of Bangladesh with a three-match ODI series in Dhaka from June 9 to 14, followed by a three-match T20I series in Chattogram from June 17 to 21.
Australia squad for Bangladesh series:
ODI squad: Mitchell Marsh (catch), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Twarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhneman, Marnus Labussagne, Matthew Renshaw, Tanveer Shangha and Zongkong.
T20I squad: Mitchell Marsh (catch), Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Joel Davies, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Aaron Hardy, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Matthew Kuhneman, Riley Meredith, Josh Phillippen.
