KARACHI: Sri Lanka’s wrist spinner Shashini Kimhani has been ruled out of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup due to injury, international media reported on Friday.

According to a report by an international cricket news website, the 17-year-old injured his lower back during training and was unable to travel with the team to England.

Right-arm seamer Chetana Vimukti has been included in their squad for the mega event scheduled to be played in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5, replacing Kimhani, who did not make his T20I debut for Sri Lanka.

Notably, Kimhani has not featured in T20Is but has represented Sri Lanka in three ODIs, all of his appearances coming in the longer format against New Zealand in March this year.

She has also played for the Sri Lanka A team in T20s, having featured in the Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s 15-man squad for the mega event has already left for England on June 2, led by experienced batting all-rounder Samari Athapatthu, who is set to play in her 10th Women’s T20 World Cup.

Sri Lanka, placed in Group 2, will begin their campaign against hosts England in Birmingham on June 12 before taking on defending champions New Zealand in Southampton on June 16.

They will then travel to Bristol, where they will take on the West Indies and Ireland on June 21 and 23 respectively, while their final group-stage match is scheduled for June 26 against Scotland in Manchester.
