Dublin: West Indies women’s cricket team won the T20 tri-series after the last match between Pakistan and Ireland was abandoned without a ball due to persistent rain on Thursday.
Although Pakistan were already out of the title race following a washout against the West Indies at the same venue on Wednesday, home team Ireland remained in contention as they needed to win the recently abandoned T20I to clinch the tri-series.
But persistent rain here did not allow a single ball to be bowled, resulting in Ireland missing out on a T20 tri-series, finishing second with 10 points from four matches, trailing West Indies due to a low net run rate.
The abandonment of the tournament meant that Pakistan ended their T20I tri-series campaign without a win, finishing bottom with four points from four games.
Pakistan lost to eventual winners West Indies by 25 runs and lost to Ireland by seven wickets.
After a disappointing T20I tri-series, the Green Shirts will leave for England to participate in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be held from June 12 to July 5.
The Green Shirts, who are placed in Group 1, will give finishing touches to preparations for the mega event scheduled to be played in Derby on June 6 and 9, with two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland.
Pakistan will formally begin their T20 World Cup campaign on June 14 by taking on arch-rivals India at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
