Nottinghamshire seamer Muhammad Ali has extended his contract with the club and will now be selected throughout this season’s Vitality Blast.
Ali initially agreed a short-term arrangement that would see him come in the summer and feature in the County Championship and One Day Cup.
However, a revised agreement will see the 33-year-old link with Trent Bridge come to an end earlier than planned.
The right-arm pacer is expected to be part of Nottinghamshire’s plans in all three formats for the 2026 season.
“I’m really happy to get the chance to come to Trent Bridge earlier than expected and I’m really looking forward to a burst of energy,” Ali said.
“I was already very excited about the opportunity to come and play in England, so when I was told there was an opportunity to come earlier, I immediately said yes.”
Ali has enjoyed a scintillating recent run in franchise cricket, taking 20 wickets at an average of 18.95 to become the second highest wicket-taker in the latest edition of the Pakistan Super League. His Hyderabad Kingsmen team finished second in the tournament.
He earned three T20 international caps for Pakistan, all coming in the March 2025 series against New Zealand, where he dismissed wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Seifert for his first IT20 wicket.
Earlier in the year, Ali also lifted the Bangladesh Premier League title with Fortune Barisal, further underlining his growing reputation in white-ball cricket.
“I’ve heard a lot about how good it is to play at Trent Bridge and I can’t wait to meet the team and play in front of the great fans,” Ali added.
“I think we have a good team this year and I’m excited to play with them and hopefully go far in this tournament.”
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores welcomed the early arrival, saying the club had moved quickly to secure his services for the Bomber.
“When it became clear last month that we needed to find another foreign player for this year’s Vitality Blast, Mohammed was the obvious choice.
“With his recent performances in the PSL, I’m really excited about what he can bring to our team and Paul Franks has always spoken highly of his ability and his character.
“He will add a lot of experience and quality to our team, which is what we want from our overseas players as we look to hit our targets with a bang this year.”
