LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to deliberate on the national team’s next Test captain following their 2-0 series loss to Bangladesh in the second Test at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday by 78 runs.
According to sources, the decision to remove current Test captain Shaun Masood has been taken on principle.
Formal discussions about a possible successor are expected to take place ahead of Pakistan’s Test tour of the West Indies.
Pakistan is set to tour the West Indies for a two-match Test series from July 15 to August 7, with matches expected to be held at Queen’s Park Oval and the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA), although the official itinerary is yet to be confirmed.
Shaun Masood, appointed as Pakistan’s red-ball captain in 2023 ahead of the three-Test series in Australia, began his tenure with a 3-0 whitewash Down Under.
Overall, he has led Pakistan in 16 Tests, winning four and losing 12, giving him a 25 percent success rate.
On the ground in Sylhet, Bangladesh wrapped up the series on the final morning as their bowlers took the last three Pakistani wickets to seal a comprehensive win.
Chasing a target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs despite Mohammad Rizwan’s brilliant innings of 94 off 166 balls with 10 fours.
Sajid Khan added 28 runs off 36 balls with 5 fours.
Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam played with exceptional figures of 6/120 in 34.2 overs. Nahid Rana picked up 2 wickets while Shoriful Islam and Mehidi Hasan Miraz picked up a wicket each with decent bowling.
