
LAHORE: Final deliberations are underway to select Pakistan’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Australia, according to reports. Jio is super On Tuesday.
The series will begin in Rawalpindi on May 30 before the remaining two matches are played in Lahore on June 2 and June 4.
According to sources, former captain Babar Azam is likely to be included in Pakistan’s squad for this series, while several changes are expected from the recent squad against Bangladesh as the selectors consider new additions ahead of the home series.
Faqar Zaman and Sufyan Mukeem are set to return, while Hunain Shah is expected to get his first call-up to the national team.
Hunain had an impressive run for debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, where he picked up 17 wickets at an economy rate of 8.57 from 10 matches.
Meanwhile, Faheem Ashraf and Hussain Dalat may find it difficult to retain their places in the ODI set-up. Discussions are also on with wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan and his role in the team, sources said.
The Australian team is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on May 23, while the Pakistan team will begin training in Rawalpindi from May 22.
Sources further said that the national team is expected to play a practice match during the training camp.
For those who don’t know, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has fielded a 28-player squad for a week-long white-ball camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for the Australia series.
The camp which started on May 15 will continue till May 21 and will include training sessions and practice matches.
The PCB added that the NCA coaching staff will work with the Pakistan Men’s White-Ball team management to train and monitor the players throughout the camp.
