KARACHI: Bangladesh’s left-arm opener Shadman Islam has been ruled out of the second home Test against Pakistan due to a chest injury, team physio Baijedul Islam Khan confirmed on Thursday.

According to a report in the local media, the 30-year-old sustained the injury while taking a catch from Salman Ali Agha on the fifth day of the series in Mirpur.

Islam celebrated briefly before collapsing to the ground and being carried off the field. He did not return for the rest of the match as Bangladesh recorded a historic 104-run victory over Pakistan.

“The shotman was hit in the chest while taking a catch during the first Test in Mirpur. He has a chest injury and is in pain,” said Bangladesh physio Beijedul.

Unfortunately, he will not play the second Test, he added.

As a result, Islam has been replaced by left-arm wicketkeeper batsman Zakir Hasan for the upcoming match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from May 16 to 20.

Hasan, who last played for Bangladesh in a Test against the West Indies in November 2024, returned to the national team on the back of a consistent performance in first-class cricket.

The 28-year-old amassed 628 runs at an impressive average of 57.09 with a century and 5 fifties.

Overall, Hasan represented Bangladesh in 13 Tests and amassed 593 runs at an average of 23.72, scoring one century and four fifties in international red-ball format for the Tigers.
