
Mirpur: Bangladesh registered their maiden Test win by beating Pakistan by 104 runs in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
The result brought significant changes in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings, with Bangladesh moving up to sixth and Pakistan moving to seventh after previously finishing fifth ahead of India.
The Tigers now sit sixth in the table with one win, one loss and one draw from three matches and have 16 points with a win percentage of 44.44.
Meanwhile, Pakistan have won one and lost two of their three matches to drop to seventh place, with a win percentage of 33.33 and 12 points.
Australia continue to dominate the top spot with 84 points from 8 matches with 7 wins and 1 loss and a win percentage of 87.50.
New Zealand are second with two wins and a draw from three games, 28 points with a win percentage of 77.78.
Defending WTC champions South Africa are third with three wins and one loss from four matches, with a win percentage of 75 and 36 points.
Sri Lanka are fourth with one win and one draw from two matches, 16 points with a win percentage of 66.67.
Chasing Bangladesh’s target of 268, Pakistan, who resumed the last session at 116-3, were bowled out for 163 in 52.5 overs.
In the second innings for Pakistan, Abdullah Fazal top scored with 66 off 113 balls with 11 fours. Salman Ali Agha scored 26 runs off 39 balls with a boundary, while Saud Shakeel, Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan scored 15 runs each.
Nahit Rana took 5-40 in 9.5 overs. Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed took 2 wickets each and Mehidi Hasan Miraz took a scalp.
Earlier, Bangladesh went into the final day at 152-3 in 50.3 overs and extended their advantage by 88 runs before declaring for 240-9, setting Pakistan a target of 268.
Captain Najmul Hossain Shando once again led from the front with a 150-ball 87 including 7 fours. Mominul Huq provided solid support with a 120-ball 56 with 4 fours.
Mehidi Hasan Miraz and Mushfiqur Rahim departed with 24 and 22 runs respectively, while the rest of the batsmen failed to contribute significantly.
Batting first, Bangladesh were bowled out for 413 runs in 117.1 overs. Key contributions came from Mominul Haque, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim.
Mominul scored 91 off 200 balls with 10 fours while Santo scored 101 off 130 balls including 12 fours and 2 sixes.
Mushfiqur scored 71 runs off 179 balls while Liton Das and Taskin Ahmed added 33 and 28 runs respectively.
Mohammad Abbas led the bowling for Pakistan with figures of 5-92 in 34 overs, Shaheen Shah Afridi took 3 wickets and Hasan Ali and Noman Ali took one each.
In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 386 runs in 100.3 overs.
Strong performances came from debutants Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal along with Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Rizwan.
Azaan scored 103 runs, Abdullah scored 60 runs, Salman scored 58 runs and Rizwan scored 59 runs.
Mehidi Hasan Miraz took 5-102 for Bangladesh, while Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam took two wickets each and Nahid Rana took one.
