KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will reconsider its offer of Men’s Test captain Shaun Masood as International Cricket and Player Affairs Advisor, sources told Geo Super on Monday.
According to details, the 36-year-old was given a verbal offer for the role in October, which was confirmed by the cricket board through a social media post and a brief press release, while the latter has now been deleted.
Insiders added that the veteran batsman’s busy Test cricket schedule makes it difficult for him to juggle two key roles simultaneously and thus the PCB is considering withdrawing the offer.
Masood’s appointment to the role follows the PCB’s advertisement for the post of Director of International Cricket Operations, which fell vacant after the resignation of Usman Wahla, but the cricket board did not specify the former’s responsibilities.
However, the responsibilities include planning and organizing international cricket events, preparing and finalizing MOUs for domestic and overseas tours of Pakistan’s national, Shaheens, U-19, U-16 and emerging teams, according to an advertisement released by the PCB.
This includes preparing for International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings, developing logistics and tournament budgets, overseeing negotiations, contract execution and travel planning for FTP tours in all formats.
Shaun Masood has represented Pakistan in 44 Tests, 9 ODIs and 19 T20Is since his international debut against South Africa in 2013.
He captained Pakistan in 14 matches, winning four and losing 10, ending in a 1–1 draw as Test captain against South Africa.
