
Amstelveen: Netherlands have named a strong squad for their maiden appearance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.
After winning all three of their Super Six matches in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, the Dutch team secured a historic qualification for the world tournament, marking a significant milestone for women’s cricket in the country.
Captain Babet De Leete expressed his excitement ahead of the team’s first match on the world stage and is confident of strong support from the fans.
“We are very excited for our first appearance in the ICC T20 World Cup. It will be a great opportunity to compete with the best teams in the world and showcase the talent we have in the Netherlands on the big stage,” he said.
“With the T20 World Cup being played close to home, in England, we are expecting a big orange crowd and a lot of support.
“It will be an experience of a lifetime, not just for us as a team, but for our families, friends and everyone who has Dutch women’s cricket at heart.”
Head coach Neil MacRae highlighted the balance in the squad, emphasizing the combination of youth and experience based on consistent performances in recent matches.
“Netherlands have selected a World Cup squad with youth and experience, having consistently performed well during the ICC World Cup Qualifiers and the ICC Emerging Nations Tournament over the past twelve months.” Netherlands head coach Neil Macrae said.
“The players are looking forward to an exciting team and the opportunity to compete against top ICC nations.”
The Netherlands will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on June 14 and have been drawn in Group A alongside Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan and South Africa.
In preparation for the tournament, the Dutch team will take part in a tri-series against Bangladesh and Scotland starting on May 28.
