KARACHI: Pakistan’s star batsman and former captain Babar Azam has inspired fans once again after sharing a nostalgic picture on social media, highlighting his rise from humble beginnings at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to become one of the leading figures in world cricket.
The post, shared on his official Instagram account, featured a series of photos showing Babur interacting with young cricketers and fans, along with motivational captions like “My motivation” and “If I can, you can”.
The message underscores her journey of perseverance, discipline and self-reliance.
The pictures soon went viral, with supporters celebrating his transformation from ball boy to the modern face of Pakistan cricket.
Babur’s story is considered one of the most inspirational stories in contemporary cricket, epitomizing hard work and determination.
The 31-year-old once worked as a ball boy at Gaddafi Stadium during the 2007 Test series between Pakistan and South Africa, walking several miles every day to reach the venue.
As a young cricket enthusiast, he would collect balls on the boundary line while drawing inspiration from international stars including AB de Villiers and Pakistan legends Younis Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Babar later developed into one of Pakistan’s most consistent performers across all three formats. He has scored 4,596 runs in 145 T20 Internationals at a strike rate of 128.02 including 39 fifties and three centuries.
In 140 ODIs, he has amassed 6,501 runs at an average of 53.72 with 20 centuries and 37 fifties. In Test cricket, he has scored 4,366 runs in 61 matches, including nine centuries and 30 fifties.
Recently, Babar achieved a milestone as captain by lifting his first major trophy, leading Peshawar Zalmi to the Pakistan Super League title in the PSL 11 final.
