
KARACHI: Centuries from Mas Sadaq and Imam-ul-Haq combined with four wickets from captain Adil Amin helped Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) beat Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) by 67 runs. sunday
Batting first, the leaders posted a mammoth total of 380/8 in their allotted 50 overs, courtesy of a formidable opening partnership between Maas and Imam, who both scored centuries.
Maas scored 110 off 65 balls with 10 sixes and 7 fours for OGDCL while Imam scored 108 off 111 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Both added 159 runs for the first wicket.
Apart from them, all-rounder Danish Aziz and middle-order batsman Haroon Arshad made significant contributions to OGDCL’s total, scoring 42 and 37 not out respectively.
For WAPDA, Ahmed Safi Abdullah bowled well and took 3 wickets while Mohammad Wasim Jr took 2 wickets.
Despite half-centuries from Mohammad Naeem, Bismilla Khan and Ahmed Safi, WAPDA managed to post 313/8 in 50 overs.
Wicketkeeper batsman Bismilla top-scored with 77 off 68 balls, while Ahmed Safi and Naeem scored 60 and 50 respectively.
Captain Adil led the bowling for OGDCL with four wickets for just 42 runs in his 10 overs, followed by Haroon with 2 wickets.
Kani Glass handed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) their first defeat as they won by one wicket in a low-scoring thriller in the President’s Cup Grade-I at the UBL Sports Complex here.
Elected to bat first, SNGPL’s batting wing could only manage 221 runs in 46.2 overs despite a half-century from opener Azan Awais.
Asan remained the top scorer with 52 runs off 64 balls with 5 fours and a six, while Saad Khan scored 44 runs.
For Ghani Class, Ubaid Shah and Shoaib Akhtar Jr took three wickets each and Mohammad Rameez Jr took 2 wickets.
In reply, Gani Glass had to do the hard yards to chase the target of 222 runs as they lost nine wickets in the process.
Dayab Tahir anchored them with 49 runs, followed by Hussain Dalat, Shahbaz Javed and Zafar Gohar with 36, 32 and 30 respectively.
For SNGPL, Athar Mehmood took 3 wickets for 47 runs in 8.3 overs and Sajid Khan and Amir Jamal took 2 wickets each.
In another fourth round match, youngster Faham-ul-Haq’s unbeaten century saw Sahir Associates win by five wickets against Pakistan Television (PTV).
Batting first, PTV scored 207 runs in 49.5 overs despite Taimur Khan’s half-century.
The wicket-keeper batsman struggled for PTV with 73 off 85 balls with five fours and three sixes.
For Sahir Associates, Razaullah took 3 wickets, Hafeez Mohammad Suleman and Mohammad Afzal took 2 wickets each and Mohammad Faiq, Mohammad Salim and Faham took one wicket each.
Chasing a simple target of 203 runs, Sahir Associates easily hit the winning runs with 5 wickets and 19 balls to spare.
Leading the way for them was emerging opener Faham, who scored an unbeaten 100 off 122 balls with 7 fours and a six. He also received significant support from wicketkeeper-batsman Asim Ali, who scored 45 off 49 balls.
For PTV, Ali Usman and Faisal Akram took 2 wickets each and Obaid Shahid took one wicket.
Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) defeated State Bank of Pakistan (SBB) by nine wickets and 98 balls to spare in the remaining fourth round match of President Cup Grade-I.
Batting first, SBP’s batting unit was bowled out for 162 runs in 40.1 overs.
Wicketkeeper batsman Kazi Ghori remained the top scorer with a cautious 36 off 58 balls, followed by Rameez Aziz with 29.
Arshad Iqbal led KRL’s bowling charge with four wickets while Saqib Khan grabbed two wickets.
In reply, KRL chased down a modest target in 33.4 overs with the help of half-centuries from Shahzaib Khan and captain Iftikhar Ahmed to win by 9 wickets.
Shahzaib scored an unbeaten 69 off 91 balls while Iftikhar scored an unbeaten 50 off 47 balls as the duo shared a 79-run partnership for the second wicket, then emerging opener Saad Baig anchored a 43-run wicket to Qasim Akram.
For non-qualifiers, the fifth round of the President Cup Grade-I will be held at four venues here on Tuesday.
