KARACHI: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has banned four budding cricketers for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Indian media reported on Friday.
According to a report, four Assam players, Amit Sinha, Ishaan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakur, have been accused of trying to incite some of their teammates to engage in corrupt activities.
As a result, the ACA has filed a First Investigation Report (FIR) with the state police’s crime branch against the players who have represented the region at various tournaments and levels.
“After the allegations came to light, BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Protection Unit (ASCU) conducted an investigation. ACA has also initiated criminal proceedings. Prima facie, they appear to have engaged in serious misconduct, which affects the integrity of the game,” ACA Secretary Sanatan Das said.
“They have been suspended to reduce any intention of further worsening the situation,” he added.
As the four players serve their respective suspensions, they will remain ineligible to participate in any state-level matches or tournaments conducted by the ACA, its district units or affiliated clubs.
These suspensions further prevent them from participating in all cricket-related activities as match referees, coaches, umpires and others.
Das further shared that all district associations have issued strict orders to comply with the order.
It is noteworthy that the Assam team could not advance to the Super League round of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
