Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday fined United Arab Emirates (UAE) captain Muhammad Wasim for breach of code of conduct.

According to the apex body, Wasim was found to have breached ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel 2.7, which provides for “public criticism or inappropriate comment relating to an international match or any player, player support person or an incident during an international match. Such criticism or inappropriate comment is made.”

As a result, Wasim has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee, while a demerit point has been added to the veteran batsman’s disciplinary record. It was the UAE captain’s first mistake in 24 months.

Wasim’s comments came to light during the post-match presentation of the second T20I of the two-match series against Nepal on Tuesday, when he claimed the umpire was biased.

Field umpires Budhi Pradhan and Vinay Kumar, third umpire Durga Subedi and fourth umpire Sanjay Chikdel upheld the charge.

Muhammad Waseem pleaded guilty and accepted the sentence handed down by the ICC International Competition Arbitration Committee’s Wendell La Bruy, thus removing the need for a formal trial.

According to ICC rules, Level 1 offenses carry the minimum sanction of an official censure, a maximum fine of 50 per cent of the match fee and one or two demerit points.

The T20I series between Nepal and UAE was drawn as Nepal and UAE won the second match by eight wickets.
