KARACHI: Middle-order batsman Darryl Mitchell’s half-century and Dian Forrester’s late blitz helped Rawalpindi’s score a huge score against Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11th match at the National Bank Stadium on Tuesday.
Opting to bat first, the openers amassed 166/6 in 20 overs thanks to a fifth-wicket partnership between Mitchell and Dion Forrester.
However, the Bindis started their innings poorly as they lost the top-order duo of Shahzaib Khan (zero) and Yasir Khan (four) for just 6 runs in two overs.
Following an early stumble, Mitchell joined skipper Mohammed Rizwan in the middle and the duo batted cautiously to add 63 for the third wicket, before being stumped by Arafat Minhas in the 11th over.
The Bindis skipper scored 26 runs off 29 balls with the help of a six and a four.
Mitchell then put on a crucial fourth-wicket partnership with Sam Billings, which saw him score 52 off 39 balls, before Mohammad Wasim Jr was dismissed short-pitched in the 17th over. The wicketkeeper batsman scored 29 runs off 20 balls with 2 fours and a six.
Billings’ dismissal paved the way for Forrester to come out to bat at number 6 and the left-handed batsman added valuable runs at the back for Rawalpindis, scoring 37 off just 15 balls.
Mitchell, on the other hand, made sure to hold firm at the other end during an unbeaten 45-run partnership and returned to top score with 58 not out off 46 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.
For Sultans, Mohammed Imran, Peter Siddle, Wasim Junior and Minhas took one wicket each.
