KARACHI: Blessing Musharrafani has reacted after being handed a two-year ban from the next two editions of the Pakistan Super League after withdrawing from the 11th season to play in the Indian Premier League.
The Zimbabwean fast bowler was originally slated to represent Islamabad United but later opted out and joined Kolkata Knight Riders on an alternative deal. He was included after Mustafizur Rahman made it to the squad.
KKR have played six matches in the ongoing tournament so far, with the 29-year-old making only two appearances in four matches.
In a statement shared on his behalf, Musharrafani’s representatives commented on the situation and also addressed reactions on social media.
According to the statement, they kept quiet for several weeks to avoid escalating tensions with the Pakistan Cricket Board and PSL organizers.
However, they decided to respond after “excessive and unacceptable” criticism of the player.
According to reports, talks between Musharrafani and Islamabad United began on 13 February 2026, with an in-principle deal subject to Zimbabwe Cricket’s no-holds-barred certificate.
It also said no formal contract was offered by the franchise or league officials.
By 27 February, with no deal finalised, Musharrafani accepted Kolkata Knight Riders’ offer. His representatives said he was not officially drafted or signed, saying “a player can never violate an undrafted contract.”
The report described the two-year ban as “excessive and disproportionate” compared to previous cases, and called for the PSL to reconsider its decision.
