WELLINGTON: Jacob Duffy’s second-innings haul of five wickets helped New Zealand to a 9-wicket win in the second Test of the three-match home series against the West Indies.

A decisive third day began as the West Indies resumed their second innings from 32/2, trailing by 41 runs, to add another 96 runs to their overnight score, resulting in a total of 128 in 46.2 overs.

Overnight pair King (22) and Hodge extended their third-wicket partnership to 25 runs before being run out in the eighth over on the first day.

Following his dismissal, Hodge shared brief partnerships with Shai Hope (five), Rostense (two) and Justin Greaves before eventually succumbing to Zachary Foulkes in the opening session.

He top scored for the tour team with 35 off 75 balls with 5 fours in the second innings.

Greaves (25) soon followed that up with a one-sided 25-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batsman Devin Imlach for the fifth wicket.

His dismissal exposed West Indies’ toothless batting wall, which was soon swept away by a New Zealand bowling attack led by Duffy, who claimed five wickets for 38 runs in his 17.2 overs.

He was supported by Michael Ray with three wickets while Foulkes took one.

In turn, they chased down the target of 56 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 10 overs.

Veteran opener Devon Conway remained at the top with an unbeaten 28 while Kane Williamson contributed with an unbeaten 16.

West Indies’ second innings saw Anderson Philip single-handedly take wickets.

New Zealand took a 1-0 lead in the three-match home series against the West Indies after the opening match ended in a draw. The third Test will be played at Mount Maunganu from December 18 to 22.
