
KARACHI: Sahir Associates’ Usman Khan and Mohammad Faiq scored fastest centuries to lead Sahir Associates to a thrilling 8-wicket victory over Ghani Glass in the 10th match of the Presidents Cup Grade-1 at the Oval Academy Ground on Friday.
Batting first, Ghani Glass posted a mammoth total of 327/7 in their 50 overs thanks to a century from top-order batsman Mohsin Riaz.
Mohsin scored a blistering 141 off 104 balls with 8 sixes and several fours for the Ghani class, while Pakistan international Dayab Tahir hit 65 off 58 balls with a half-century.
Shahid Ali was the standout bowler for Sahir Associates, taking 3 wickets for 64 runs in his 10 overs, while Mohammad Saleem, Mohammad Afzal and Faiq bowled with a scalp each.
In reply, Sahir Associates chased down a tough target of 328 runs off just 2 wickets and 79 balls.
However, Sahir Associates got off to a different start as both their openers Fahad Usman (28) and Faham-ul-Haq (26) were reduced to 55/2.
Following a succession of dismissals, Fike joined Usman in the middle and the duo launched a belligerent onslaught off the bowling of Ghani Glass as they chased down Sahir Associates for 275 in the 37th over.
Usman scored an unbeaten 159 off 98 balls with 16 fours and 8 sixes, while Fike scored an unbeaten 108 off 76 balls with 13 fours.
Leaders Chui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) outclassed States Bank of Pakistan (SBB) in the 11th match of the eight-team tournament at the Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) ground here.
Batting first, SBP amassed 286/8 in their allotted 50 overs with half-centuries from Mohammad Huraira, Muhammad Irfan Khan and Rameez Aziz.
Ramis remained SBB’s top scorer with 60 off 51 balls, while Irfan and Huraira scored 57 and 54 respectively.
The bowling of SNGPL saw Mohammad Asab take three wickets, Mohammad Irfan two wickets and Shahnawaz Dahani, Kamran Ghulam and captain Mubasir Khan one each.
Chasing a target of 287 runs, SNGPL won by losing 7 wickets in the final ball.
Wicket-keeper batsman Haseebullah top-scored with 89 off 112 balls, while Muhammad Awais Zafar did them proud with an unbeaten half-century, hitting 65 off 42 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours.
On behalf of SBB, Kaship Bhatti took 3 wickets for 47 runs in 10 overs and Niaz Khan and Mohammad Ismail took 2 wickets each.
Pakistan Television (PTV) defeated Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) by six runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method in the ninth match of the President’s Cup Grade-I at the UBL Sports Complex here.
Batting first, PTV posted 272/8 in 50 overs thanks to a strong start with their openers Shamil Hussain and Yasir Khan both scoring half-centuries.
Shamil followed up with a top score of 58 off 49 balls while Yasir scored 50 off 69 balls.
On the WAPDA side, Mujdaba Khan took two wickets while Mohammad Wasim Jr, Akif Javed, Sharoon Siraj, Ahmed Safi Abdullah and Mohammad Zeeshan took one each.
Chasing a competitive target of 273, WAPDA were 235/4 in 47 overs, needing 38 off 18 balls when poor light halted play and DLS found them six runs short of the even score.
Opener Muhammad Akhlaq topped WAPDA’s highest defeat with 84 off 109 balls, while middle-order batsman Sharoon Siraj scored 59 off 72 balls.
For PTV, Jahandad Khan took 2 wickets while Ali Usman and captain Amat Bhat took one wicket each.
For non-qualifiers, the fourth round matches of the President Cup Grade-I will be played at four venues here on Sunday.
