
WELLINGTON: Debutant Mitchell Haye’s half-century gave New Zealand a 41-run lead on the second day of the second Test against the West Indies at Basin Reserve on Thursday.
At the end of the game, Michael Ray and Jacob Duffy dismissed John Campbell (14) and Anderson Phillips (nil) in successive overs to shake up their top order, leaving the tourists reeling at 32/2.
Opener Brandon King and all-rounder Gavem Hodge remained unbeaten on 15 and 3 respectively as West Indies resumed their second innings trailing by 41 runs on day three.
At the start of the second day, New Zealand resumed their first innings with West Indies 205 all out at 24/0 and added another 254 to their overnight score before being bowled out for 278 in 74.4 overs.
Leading their batting line-up was debutant wicketkeeper batsman Mitchell Hay, who scored a blistering half-century after coming out to bat at number 6.
Haye continued to top score with 61 off 93 balls, while opener Devon Conway hit 60 off 108 balls with 8 boundaries.
Other notable runs were experienced batsman Kane Williamson and all-rounder Daryl Mitchell who scored 37 and 25 respectively.
In the first innings for the West Indies, Anderson Phillips took 3 wickets for 70 runs in 13 overs, Kemar Roach took 2 wickets and Roston Chase, Justin Greaves, Ojay Shields and Jayden Seals took one wicket each.
