KARACHI: Former champions Islamabad United have released an important statement regarding fast bowler Mir Hamza Sajjad, who was hit on the back of the head by New Zealander Mark Chapman during a net session at the Hanif Muhammad High Performance Center yesterday.

In a statement released by United’s management, the owner confirmed that Hamza Sajjad has rejoined the squad after being cleared by doctors.

The 29-year-old was briefly knocked unconscious after being hit during training and was treated by the team’s medical staff before being rushed to hospital.

He regained consciousness in the ambulance and responded upon arrival, where he was able to communicate with the medical team.

He underwent a CT scan and extensive medical evaluations, following which he was kept under observation overnight as a precaution.

After being cleared by doctors and deemed fit for discharge, the right-arm pacer has now rejoined Islamabad United at the team hotel. He will remain in the team and the medical staff will continue to monitor and support him.

The franchise is grateful for the quick response of the medical staff and the support provided by the fans, other owners and the wider cricket community during this time.

The three-time champions stand firm with Hamza and are committed to his well-being.

Notably, Hamza has played six matches and taken eight wickets in his budding T20 career so far.

The Gujarat-born right-arm pacer was snapped up by United in the PSL players’ first bid for PKR 7 million, but is yet to make his debut.

In the points table, Shadab Khan-led Islamabad United are currently at the third position with two wins, one loss and one match dropped. They have collected five runs with a healthy net run rate of 1.055.

They will face defending champions Lahore Qalandars in the fifth PSL 11 match at the National Bank Stadium on Thursday.
