LAHORE: 2021 champions Multan Sultans beat tournament debutants Rawalpindi by 7 wickets in match 14 of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.

Batting first, Bintis posted 182/8 in their 20 overs thanks to an unbeaten half-century from Sam Billings.

The wicket-keeper batsman top-scored with 56 off 34 balls with 7 fours and a six, followed by Kamran Ghulam’s 35 off 24 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Faisal Akram was the best bowler for Sultan with 4 wickets for 31 runs in his four overs, Arafat Minhas 2 wickets and Muhammad Ismail and Peter Siddle 1 wicket each.

In turn, the 2021 champions easily chased down the target of 183 runs with 3 wickets and 22 balls remaining.

Leading the way for them was in-form opener Sahibzada Farhan, who smashed 68 off 38 balls with 5 sixes and 4 fours.

He was followed by Josh Phillip with 56 off 30 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Both added 110 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Following their back-to-back dismissals, captain Ashton Turner and his partner Shaun Masood put on an unbeaten 47-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir took 2 wickets for 32 runs in his 3 overs and youngster Mohammad Amir Khan took one wicket.

The seven-wicket win sealed Sultans’ fourth spot in five matches and cemented their top spot in the PSL 11 standings, two points clear of second-placed Karachi Kings with six points from three games.

Conversely, the loss extended Rawalpindi’s losing streak to four matches, leaving them seventh in the points table thanks to a relatively higher net run rate than fellow debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen.

Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators are third, fourth, fifth and sixth with five, four, three and two points respectively.
