LAHORE: Pakistan batsman Kamran Ghulam, who is representing Rawalpindi in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, has declared himself ready for the demands of modern cricket, insisting that he has continued to play in all formats despite not getting the opportunities he deserved.

Ghulam, who represented Pakistan in six Tests and 11 ODIs, spoke candidly. Jio News About his journey, his current form and his ambitions for a national team comeback.

“I feel like I haven’t been given the opportunities I should have been given,” Gulam said. “I’ve been playing in every format. I’ve been playing domestic cricket consistently – take the record and see for yourself. There’s constant activity.”

The top-order batsman will now look for a strong performance as a springboard for his comeback in the current edition of the tournament.

“After the National T20 Cup, I will make a comeback by playing in the PSL,” he said.

He also stressed that while high strike rates are essential in modern cricket, anchor players have an important role to play in building an innings.

“In modern cricket, the better your strike rate, the better it is for the team,” Ghulam explained. “But there is always a need for a player who can build an innings in the playing XI. I got good form from the National T20 Cup and now my start for PSL is good.”

Ghulam pointed to his white-ball credentials and dismissed any notion that he was only suited for the longer format.

“My performance has been good not only in red-ball cricket but also in white-ball cricket. Wherever I have been given an opportunity, I have done well,” he said.

The 30-year-old has adapted his game to suit the rapid evolution of cricket.

“Cricket has progressed. What modern-day cricket needs is that you have multiple shots – batsmen need to know every kind of shot. That will help them move forward.”

The all-rounder said that he is actively working to fulfill those demands.

“I am working very hard for modern cricket and I am ready for it. Recently, my strike rate is 200. I know if I perform, I will make it to the national team. That is my focus,” he concluded.
