Batting first, Quetta Gladiators managed to score 183 for 5 in 20 overs despite a blistering start from openers Shamil Hussain and Saud Shakeel.
The pair attacked United’s bowlers from the start and settled for 50, with pacer Salman Irshad breaking the partnership in the fifth over, dismissing Hussain for 21 off 15 balls (one four, two sixes).
Khawaja Nafey then joined Shakeel, but captain Shatab Khan dismissed Shakeel and scored a blistering 42 off 26 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes).
Shadab struck again in the 12th over, first dismissing wicketkeeper-batsman Ben McDermott for 3 off six balls, then Bevon Jacobs for a golden duck to reduce Quetta to 93-5.
Hasan Nawaz and Tom Curran steadied the innings with a crucial partnership as the team crossed the 100-run mark. Quetta gained momentum in the 16th over as Nawaz scored 21 off Imad Wasim. The pair shared 50 runs and scored freely at the death.
Nawaz brought up his fifth PSL half-century with an unbeaten 64 off 35 balls (6 fours, 3 sixes), while Curran contributed 29 runs off 22 balls (two fours, a six). Quetta ended the match on 183-5.
In reply, Shatab Khan’s United team reached the target of 184 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in the 19th over. The chase was powered by a match-winning knock from rising batsman Sameer Minhas and a key contribution from skipper Shadab.
After initial jitters, Sameer and Shatab forged a crucial 50-run partnership to take the total past 100.
The young opener was in sublime form, bringing up his maiden PSL half-century, while Shadab led from the front with his ninth PSL half-century.
Shatab hit back-to-back boundaries to pile the pressure on the Quetta bowlers.
In the end, Islamabad chased down the target with ease. Sameer Minhas scored 83 runs off 48 balls (8 fours, 3 sixes) and Shatab Khan finished unbeaten on 68 runs off 38 balls (5 fours, 4 sixes).
