LAHORE: 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators have appointed former Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanveer as their bowling coach for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 to be played till May 3.
Tanveer, who was part of the Gladiators team that won the coveted title in 2019, is set to replace Wahab Riaz as the franchise’s bowling coach on Tuesday.
The development comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) barred the former national pacer, who mentors the women’s cricket team, from playing dual roles to avoid conflict of interest.
Notably, the cricket board initially granted Rias a no-obligation certificate (NOC), which allowed him to associate with a PSL franchise, leading to his appointment as the Gladiators’ director and bowling coach.
However, Cricket revoked these permits following a review of their obligations. The move reflects strict enforcement of the policy that permanent PCB officials cannot simultaneously play a role in domestic franchise cricket.
For the uninitiated, the change in coaching setup comes when Gladiators are fifth in the PSL 11 standings with two points from two matches.
The runners-up of the previous edition got off to a dismal start to their campaign as they lost by 14 runs at the hands of Karachi Kings, opening their account with a 60-run thrashing of openers Hyderabad Kingsmen.
Their next game is scheduled for Thursday against three-time champions Islamabad United at the Gaddafi Stadium.
