LAHORE: Defending champions Lahore Qalandars have fined captain Shaheen Shah Afridi Rs 1 million for a security breach involving “unauthorised entry into the players’ room”.

In a statement, it said the matter was investigated internally and was not an intentional breach but a misunderstanding.

The franchise added that it has duly informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after completing a full internal investigation. It said the incident has been exaggerated and some reports have been misrepresented.

The move against Shaheen has been taken in the spirit of accountability and discipline, reiterating that the franchise respects all security norms.

Officials said the Qalandars captain escorted team-mate Sikandar Raza’s guests into the players’ room at the team hotel despite being refused permission by security staff.

The Shaheen-led team is second on the points table with two points from two matches in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.

They won their campaign opener against Hyderabad Kingsmen on 26 March; However, the team lost by four wickets to Karachi Kings on Sunday.

During the Karachi match, the owner was fined five runs for allegedly changing the position of the ball.

Qalandars batsman Faqar Zaman was also charged with a Level 3 offense under Section 2.14 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for breaching Law 41.3 of the Playing Conditions, which prohibits any act of altering the position of the ball.
