LAHORE: Defending champion Lahore Qalandars all-rounder Sikandar Raza has thanked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) management for allowing him to meet his family.
The Zimbabwe captain took to social media site ‘X’ to express his gratitude.
“Thanks to PCB and PSL management for allowing my family and relatives to visit me in my room. Your kind gesture is much appreciated,” Raza wrote.
His news follows a tumultuous period for the Qalandars, who were recently fined Rs 1 million by captain Shaheen Shah Afridi for an unauthorized security breach inside the team’s hotel rooms.
The incident in question is said to be related to Afridi allowing Raza’s guests, against the instructions of the security staff.
In a statement, the franchise described the matter as a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate breach, saying it had been investigated internally. The club said the incident was exaggerated and misrepresented in some reports.
After a full internal investigation, the Qalandars confirmed that they had duly communicated their findings to the PCB and said that the action against their captain was taken in the spirit of responsibility and discipline.
Controversy deepened for the franchise after opening batsman Faqar Zaman was suspended for two matches in PSL 11 after being found guilty of a Level 3 breach of the tournament’s code of conduct.
The PCB confirmed the decision on Monday following an incident during Qalandars’ clash with Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, March 30.
In the closing stages of the game, the field umpires penalized Lahore Qalandars for five runs and ordered Karachi Kings to change the ball before the last over of the innings.
Umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Afridi, TV umpire Asif Yakub and fourth umpire Tariq Rashid charged Zaman. The player denied the allegations and requested a full disciplinary hearing.
Match referee Roshan Mahanama oversaw the proceedings, reaching his decision after reviewing all the available evidence and giving Zaman a personal hearing.
Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, team director Sameen Rana and team manager Farooq Anwar were also present.
Zaman was charged under Section 2.14 of the Code for “altering the position of the ball in contravention of Rule 41.3 of the PSL Playing Conditions”.
