LAHORE: 2017 champions Peshawar Zalmi successfully chased down a target of 215 runs against debutants Rawalpindis in the third match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
Set to chase down a tough target at the start of their campaign, the former champions were helped by a combined effort from their batsmen to easily knock off the winning runs with five wickets and as many balls to spare.
Young opener Mohammad Haris scored 47 runs off 28 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes to remain Zalmi’s top score, followed by his opening partner and skipper Babar, who scored 38 off as many balls.
Middle-order batsmen Michael Bracewell, Abdul Samad and Gusal Mendis scored 35, 33 and 31 respectively, while all-rounder Amir Jamal provided the finishing touch with an unbeaten 17 off 5 balls.
As a result, Zalmi broke Major League Cricket’s (MLC) Washington Freedom’s record for the most runs chased by a batsman in men’s T20s.
The Freedom chased down a target of 214 runs against the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the 2025 edition of the tournament, with Mitchell Owen scoring 43 off 16 balls as their highest score.
Peshawar Zalmi’s 218/5 in 19.1 overs was Pakistan’s highest score in domestic cricket by any team without a half-century.
Earlier, the record for most T20I runs without a half-century in Pakistan’s domestic cricket was jointly held by fellow PSL holders Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators, who scored 209 runs each.
Also, Zalmi’s target of 215 at the Gaddafi Stadium here was a successful run chase.
