
KARACHI: Former Australia captain Steve Smith flew to Pakistan from New York to participate in the 11th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The matches will be held from March 26 to May 3.
Ahead of her trip, Smith took to Instagram to share a collection of photos and videos showcasing her time in New York.
The posts featured him enjoying a game of ice hockey, taking in coastal views, playing 3D golf and walking his pet puppies on city streets.
“Glad to take some time off in NYC, now off to Pakistan for PSL,” Smith wrote.
The right-handed batsman brings a wealth of experience in the shortest format, having played in top leagues around the world including Big Bash League (PBL), The Hundred, Indian Premier League (IPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
He will make his debut in the Pakistan Super League this season.
The 36-year-old has represented Australia in 67 T20 Internationals, scoring 1,094 runs at a strike rate of 125.45, including five fifties.
In domestic and T20 cricket, Smith has played 272 matches and amassed 6,242 runs at a strike rate of 131.38, with 30 fifties and five centuries.
Most recently, he played for the Sydney Sixers in PBL 15, scoring 299 runs at a strike rate of 167.97 in six matches. His performances, which included a century and two half-centuries, helped his team reach the finals.
The historic 11th edition of the marquee league will feature eight teams, including two new contenders, Rawalpindis and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen. A total of 44 matches are scheduled for this 39-day tournament.
The tournament begins on March 26, with defending champions Lahore Qalandars taking on Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen at their home ground.
According to the recently published schedule, each team will play ten matches. The top four teams advance to the playoffs, which include Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the Final.
The title decider is scheduled to be played on May 3 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has also set aside a reserve day for the final on May 4.
The season will feature six doubleheaders, three of which will be held at Gaddafi Stadium. With Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Peshawar hosting PSL matches for the first time, six venues will host matches in Pakistan.
Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium has the most matches (15), followed by Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium with 11. Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium will host seven matches, while Karachi’s National Bank Stadium will host six matches.
Four matches are scheduled at the Multan Cricket Stadium and a one-day match between home team Peshawar Zalmi and Rawalpindis on March 28 at Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Peshawar.
