KARACHI: Former champions Karachi Kings have strengthened their squad for the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), signing Pakistan Under-19 batting sensation Haroon Arshad.
The matches will be held from March 26 to May 3. West Indies hard-hitting batsman Johnson Charles has been replaced by South African opener Reesa Hendricks.
“Welcome our new star. After shining in domestic cricket with 3 first-class centuries, Pakistan U19 player Haroon Arshad is now all set to shine brightly in the PSL arena,” Kings wrote in ‘X’.
A team official later confirmed that Hendricks signed for slightly less than Charles, helping the franchise bring in another local player at base value.
The 20-year-old brings useful experience in the shorter format, having played four domestic T20 matches and scored 122 runs at an average of 61.00 and a strike rate of 125.77.
He has taken both wickets. He has scored 748 runs at an average of 29.92 including 3 centuries in 13 first-class matches.
The upcoming PSL season will feature eight teams, with two new contenders – Rawalpindis and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen – competing in 44 matches over 39 days.
Defending champions Lahore Qalandars Hyderabad will face Houston Kingsmen in the opening match on March 26. Karachi Kings will begin their campaign against Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium on March 27.
Each team will play ten matches, with the top four advancing to the playoffs, which will consist of Qualifier 1, an eliminator, Qualifier 2 and the final on May 3 at Gaddafi Stadium. A reserve day is scheduled for May 4.
The tournament will feature six double-headers, three of which will be played in Lahore. With Faisalabad and Peshawar hosting PSL matches for the first time, along with Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi, matches will be held at six venues in Pakistan.
Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore has the most matches (15) followed by Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium with 11 matches.
The Multan Cricket Stadium is set to host four matches, and a match between Peshawar Zalmi and Rawalpindis will be played on March 28 at the Arbab Niaz Stadium.
