KARACHI: England bowling all-rounder Sam Curran is likely to miss this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury, international media reported on Thursday.

According to a report by an international cricket news website, Curran suffered a “suspected groin injury” that has put his participation in this year’s transfer league in doubt.

The 27-year-old last played for England on March 5, in the second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final against eventual champions India.

Curran was set to represent Rajasthan Royals for the first time in the league’s history after the inaugural champions snapped up Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) along with Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Royals would be Curran’s third IPL team after starting his career with Punjab Kings in 2019.

He later represented CSK in the 2020 and 2021 editions before being snapped up by Punjab Kings for Rs 18.5 crore in the 2023 season as the most expensive player in the league and eligible for IPL 17.

Curran was bought back by CSK for IPL 2025 for Rs 2.4 crore, during which he scored 114 runs and took one wicket in five matches.

The report further suggested that there is no confirmation yet on who the Royals are likely to bring in as Curran’s replacement, but the franchise is exploring a few options.

Apart from Jadeja, the Royals also feature South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira – a tough batsman who can bowl quickly.

Notably, Ferreira was also roped in by Royals through a trade with Delhi Capitals at his base price of INR 1 crore.
