KARACHI: Champions Multan Sultans on Friday directly signed all-rounder Imran Randhawa for the much-anticipated Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 scheduled to be held from March 26 to May 3.
Randhawa has played 60 T20 matches in his decade-long professional career, scoring 746 runs at an average of 20.16 and a strike rate of 132.97, and taking 38 wickets at an average of 32.28.
The 29-year-old also has one PSL appearance to his name, which came for Peshawar Zalmi in the 2020 edition.
“Multan Sultans are incredibly proud to announce the signing of experienced all-rounder Muhammad Imran Randhawa for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season,” the franchise said in a statement.
“Having hailed from Bahawalpur in South Punjab, the addition of Randhawa is a testament to the owner’s commitment to perseverance, hard work and rewarding indigenous excellence.
“Over the years, Randhawa has been a consistent and tireless performer in Pakistan’s domestic circuit. Despite his excellent performances and time and again proving his mettle with both bat and ball, a top PSL opportunity has long eluded him.
“His signing by the Sultans is a moment of long overdue justice for a truly deserving player who refused to give up on his dream.”
Reflecting on his late signing, Randhawa hailed CEO Gohar Shah as “an angel” before vowing to give the former champions “absolute everything” in the upcoming PSL 11.
“It was like an angel, Gohar Shah, who gave me an opportunity that never seemed to come. There were times when I felt like this door would never open for me, but I’m so glad I kept going,” Randhawa said in a statement released by the Sultans.
“I am ready to give everything for this right and I am ready to prove that I belong on this stage.”
The next day, the Randhawa deal was struck, with the PSL management announcing an exemption to the Multan Sultans by giving them a PKR 1.2 crore increase in their salary cap.
The 2021 champions will begin their PSL 11 campaign on March 28 against three-time winners Islamabad United at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Multan Sultans Squad for PSL 11: Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Faisal Akram, Saad Masood, Steve Smith (direct signing), Arafat Minhas, Sahibzada Farhan, Ashton Turner (catch), Peter Siddle, Tabriz Shamsi, Lachlan Shaw, Delano Podjiter, Mosmin Ames, Mohammad, Josh Maas, Zafar, Muhammad Shahzad and Imran Randawa.
