Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday censured the Indian men’s cricket team for maintaining a slow over rate in the second ODI of the three-match series against South Africa in Raipur on December 3.

According to cricket’s apex body, after time allowances were considered, the home team was adjudged to be two overs short of the target, which was sanctioned by Richie Richardson of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

As per the ICC Code of Conduct on Minimum Over Rate Offenses and Rule 2.22 for Players and Player Support Personnel, players who fail to bowl within the allotted time will be fined five percent of the match fee for each over.

Indian captain KL Rahul accepted the charge after field umpires Rod Tucker and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Sam Nogajski and reserve umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal made the charge.

Interestingly, India suffered a heavy four-wicket defeat in the aforementioned match as South Africa chased down a tough target of 359 runs in 49.2 overs.

Leading South Africa’s batting charge in a thrilling run chase was veteran Aiden Markram, who top-scored with a blistering century, while Matthew Preitzke and Devald Previs scored half-centuries.

Earlier, after batting first, the hosts posted a mammoth total of 358/5 in their 50 overs, aided by centuries from Virat Kohli and Rudharaj Gaekwad.

Gaekwad scored 105 off 83 balls while Kohli scored 102 off 93 balls.
