Johannesburg: Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday announced the 15-man squad for the five-match T20I series against New Zealand from March 15 to 25.
Experienced spinner Kesav Maharaj will lead the team, which is missing five players – Connor Esterhuizen, Dian Forrester, Jordan Herman, Ethan Bosh and Ngobani Mokoina.
Notably, South Africa are currently resting their key players, including captain Aiden Markram, who are currently part of their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, in a bid to rest them until March 8.
“As the series takes place directly after the T20 World Cup, the majority of the squad will return home, which creates a great opportunity for this group to step into the international environment and show what they are capable of at this level,” South Africa head coach Sukri Conrad said.
“Casav has experience as the captain of the Proteas and has led two teams to SA20 finals. His leadership and calm presence make him the ideal person to lead this team on this tour.
“The batting unit is particularly exciting on this tour. Tony brings experience to the top order, while Connor, Dion and Jordan have shown their ability to play positive, attacking cricket for their domestic teams.
“During the Sa20 Nqobani showed that he is an exciting youngster with the potential to make an impact and this series will provide the perfect opportunity to expose him to the international set-up.”
