JOHANNESBURG: Veteran all-rounder Marisan Cup has been ruled out of the three-match home ODI series against Pakistan, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Thursday.

According to the CSA, the 36-year-old all-rounder suffered discomfort after ending his spell in the third T20I of the previous series at Benoni on Monday and was rested for the next ODI assignment “as a precaution”.

“Proteas Women’s all-rounder Marisan Gabe has withdrawn from the upcoming ICC Women’s Championship One Day International series against Pakistan scheduled from February 22 to March 01 due to ill health,” CSA said in a statement.

“Kab experienced discomfort during the first innings of the third T20 International at Benoni on Monday. Following further medical evaluations, the Proteas women’s medical team has decided to rest her as a precaution,” it added.

As a result, Kapp was replaced by emerging bowling all-rounder Fay Cowling in South Africa’s squad for the series after “impressive” at the national training camp last month.

“(…) Bowling all-rounder and former SA U19 Women’s standout Fay Cowling has earned her first national call-up after impressing at the national training camp in Schwan last month.”

For the uninitiated, the upcoming ODI series begins on Sunday in Bloemfontein, while the remaining two matches are played in Centurion and Durban on February 25 and March 1 respectively.
