Colombo: R. Pakistan Test cricketer Ahmed Shezad has slammed former captain Babar Azam after his poor exit in a high-voltage clash against India during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.
Taking to social media platform X, Shehzad questioned whether Babur’s latest defeat could prove to be a defining moment in his T20 career, hinting at the pressure surrounding the star batsman’s performance in the shorter format.
“Babar is gone once again. It might be his last dance to prove his worth in this format,” Shehzad wrote.
The right-handed batsman has struggled to perform well in the ongoing tournament. He scored 15 against the Netherlands in Pakistan’s campaign opener, followed by a 32-ball 46 against the USA.
However, he failed to convert his debut into a substantial score in the crucial encounter against India.
Against India, the 31-year-old has played six T20Is and has scored 110 runs at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 123.59, including a half-century.
The Pakistan team, which entered the field with the goal of winning if they score 176 runs, was in dire straits. At the time of filing this report, they were reeling at 73-5 in 11 overs, with Mohammad Nawaz and Shatab Khan at the crease.
Sahibzada Farhan was ducked by Hardik Pandya, while Saim Ayub and Salman Ali Agha fell cheaply to Jasprit Bumrah for six and four respectively.
Usman Khan top scored 44 off 34 balls with 6 fours and a six.
