CHENNAI: United States (USA) cruised to a 93-run victory over Netherlands in their Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

Batting first, USA scored 196 for 6 in 20 overs thanks to top-order batsman Syedeja Mukamalla’s superb half-century.

The right-handed batsman scored 79 runs off 51 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. All-rounder Shubham Ranjane and skipper Monak Patel scored unbeaten 48 and 36 respectively for his efforts.

Among the Netherlands’ bowlers, Paz de Leet took 3 for 37 from his four overs, while Logan van Beek, Kyle Klein and Fred Klaassen claimed a wicket each.

Chasing a target of 197 runs, the Netherlands’ batting unit were bowled out for 103 runs in 15.5 overs, suffering their second defeat at the 2026 T20 World Cup.

All-rounder De Leete top-scored for the Netherlands with 23 off 17 balls, followed by captain Scott Edwards’ 20 off 14 balls and Max O’Dowd (13) and Rolof van der Merwe (10) scoring double figures.

Harmeet Singh took 4 wickets conceding just 21 runs in his four overs, followed by Shadley van Schalkwyk with three wickets. Mohamed Mohsin scored 2 runs and Nostush Kenjike scored one.

The 93-run win marked America’s first win at the mega-event and lifted them to third place in the Group A standings, keeping their Super Eights hopes alive.

Meanwhile, the Netherlands slipped to fourth despite a win as a heavy defeat in the aforementioned match reduced their net run rate.
