LAHORE: The much awaited player auction of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 is underway at the Expo Center on Wednesday.

The upcoming auction marks the first time in the league’s history that the draft — the player selection process — has remained intact in the first 10 editions since its inception in 2016.

As the PSL gears up for expansion with the addition of two new franchises, Sialkot Stallions and Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen, a change in player selection pattern is coming.

As a result, 879 local and foreign cricketers who have been placed in five different categories namely Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver and Emerging by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) registered in the historic auction.

The eight teams will form their squads by selecting players of their choice from the above categories, with a maximum purse amount of USD 1.6 million.

However, unlike the draft system, the auction model does not have a pecking order, meaning owners can openly engage in a bidding war for a player.
