Ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 starting in Colombo on Sunday, the United States (USA) has announced Pakistan-origin fast bowler Ehsan Adil as a replacement for Jasdeep Singh.
The Event Technical Committee (ETC) of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has approved Adil’s inclusion after Jasdeep was ruled out due to a right shoulder injury sustained during the practice match against New Zealand on February 5.
Adil, who has previously represented Pakistan in three Tests and six ODIs, is yet to make his debut for the US but was included in the squad following approval from the ETC, which is mandatory for all tournament transfers.
The EDC consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket), Gaurav Saxena (IPC Representative), Hemang Amin (Host Representative) and Shaun Pollock (Independent Representative).
Meanwhile, USA suffered a 29-run defeat against India in their tournament opener at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav’s valiant half-century coupled with a controlled bowling effort proved decisive.
Chasing a target of 162, the United States posted 132/8 in the allotted 20 overs despite a 58-run stand for the fourth wicket between Milind Kumar and Sanjay Krishnamurthy.
The pair tried to rebuild the innings after USA slumped to 13/3 in 3.2 overs, with Mohammad Siraj and Arshdeep Singh tearing through the top order.
In the 12th over, Varun Chakraborty dismissed Kumar for 34 off one ball. Krishnamurthy added 27 runs with Shubham Ranjane for the fifth wicket and fell to Axar Patel after scoring 37 runs off 31 balls, including 2 sixes and a four.
USA lost wickets at regular intervals thereafter, although Ranjane fought until the final ball, where he was caught lbw to Siraj, who impressed with 3/29 from four overs.
Earlier, US captain Monak Patel’s decision to field first proved an early success as his bowlers restricted India to 161/9.
Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 84 off 49 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes to guide India past 160 runs.
