LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) took on Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) on the opening day of the Presidents Trophy Grade-1 final at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

Electing to bat first, WAPDA scored 233-6 in their allotted 70 overs.

The innings started smoothly with the openers scoring 50 runs. Mohammad Akhlaq started cautiously but scored 16 off 29 balls, including 2 fours, with Amir Jamal dismissed.

Imran Dogar then anchored the innings, scoring 38 off 55 balls with 6 fours before succumbing to Jamal who claimed his second wicket.

Top-order batsman Sharon Siraj failed to make an impact and was ducked out after 10 balls and fell to Jamal, who emerged as the pick of the bowlers.

Mohammad Ammar scored 31 off 120 balls with 4 fours before Shehzad Gul completed his gold.

WAPDA then bounced back with an 81-run fourth-wicket partnership, with Ayaz Dasawar making 57 off 108 balls before being dismissed by Shahnawaz Dahani.

Skipper Khalid Usman fell cheaply for 4 off 14 balls, but Bismilla Khan remained unbeaten on 48 and would continue the innings alongside Naqeebullah, who was unbeaten on 12 balls when stumps were drawn.

For SNGPL, Amir Jamal was the best bowler with figures of 3/62 in 19 overs. Shahnawaz Dahani took two wickets and Shehzad Gul took one as WAPDA faced a challenging chase on day two.
