KARACHI: Former Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen is keen to regain ownership of the 2021 champions, sources told Geo News on Friday.

According to insiders, Tareen, who decided against renewing the ownership contract after the landmark 10th edition of the marquee league due to differences with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has decided to participate in the team’s auction on February 8 or 9.

As a result, sources added, Tareen has submitted the necessary documents to appear in Sultans’ auction.

For the uninitiated, Tareen was among the qualified bidders for the two new PSL franchises that were sold recently, but pulled out at the 11th hour after the teams were acquired by FKS Group and OZ Developers, named after Hyderabad and Sialkot respectively.

Reflecting on his journey with Multan Sultans and his deep connection with South Punjab, Ali Dareen shared his decision on social media platform X.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided not to participate in today’s PSL franchise bid,” Tareen said.

“Our time with Multan Sultans was not just about owning a cricket team. It was about South Punjab. It was about giving voice to a region that had been neglected for so long. That was what drove everything we created,” he added.

Also, Tareen indicated that any possible recovery for the PSL would be linked to his interest in South Punjab.

“If I come back to PSL, it will be for the same reason. South Punjab is where my heart is. It is home. This year, I will be in the stands, cheering the players and celebrating with the fans. And when the Multan team is sold, we will be ready,” wrote Tareen.

Congratulations to all bidders
