Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday announced the provisional suspension of United States (USA) batsman Aaron Jones for breaching its and Cricket West Indies’ (CWI) anti-corruption codes.
According to the apex body, the charges against the 31-year-old batsman are mainly related to the 2023-24 BIM10 tournament, which falls under the jurisdiction of the CWI Anti-Corruption Act, while two charges relate to international tournaments, which fall under the ICC’s jurisdiction.
Jones was charged with the following offences:
- Violation of CWI Code Section 2.1.1 – Fixing, conspiring to fix or improperly influencing, or entering into or attempting to fix, or in any way agree or attempt to fix, the outcome, progress, conduct or other aspect of the matches in the Bim10 Competition in 2023/24.
- Breach of Section 2.4.2 of the CWI Code – Failure to disclose to Cricket West Indies details of any approaches or invitations to engage in conduct in breach of the CWI Code.
- Violation of Section 2.4.4 of the CWI Code – Failure to cooperate or refuse to cooperate with a reasonable investigation by a designated anti-corruption officer (or his/her designee) into possible offenses under the CWI Code.
- Violation of Rule 2.4.4 of the ICC Code – Failure by the ICC to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the ICC Code.
- Violation of ICC Code Article 2.4.7 – Obstructs the ACU’s investigation into possible corrupt conduct by concealing and/or distorting information that may be relevant to the investigation or may constitute evidence or lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct.
The ICC, in its statement, further revealed that the charges leveled against Jones are part of a ‘wider investigation’, with further charges against other individuals likely in due course. It further shared that Jones has been suspended with immediate effect and has 14 days to respond.
“These charges form part of a wider investigation which may result in further charges being brought against other participants in due course,” the ICC said.
“Jones has been provisionally suspended from all cricket and has 14 days from 28 January 2026 to respond to the charges.”
Jones’ suspension comes days before the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, and could force the US to look for alternatives as they are yet to announce their squad for the mega event.
For the uninitiated, Jones has so far represented USA in 52 ODIs and 48 T20Is, amassing 2434 appearances with a century and 13 fifties.
