
CAPE TOWN: Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Pretoria Capitals by six wickets at Newlands on Sunday to win their third SA20 title, continuing their dominance of the competition by winning three of their four seasons.
Batting first, Pretoria Capitals scored 158 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs thanks to a brilliant century from middle-order batsman Devald Previs.
Previs scored 101 off 56 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes.
Bryce Parsons scored a one-ball 30, which included two fours and a six, while the rest of the Capitals’ batting line-up failed to make a significant contribution.
For Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Marco Johnson led the bowling with impressive figures of 3/10 in four overs. Lutho Chipamla and Anrich Nordje took one wicket each.
In reply, Sunrisers Eastern Cape chased down the target with four wickets in the final over thanks to unbeaten centuries from Matthew Preitzke and Tristan Stubbs.
Preitzke scored an unbeaten 68 off 49 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes while Stubbs scored an unbeaten 63 off 41 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes.
Sunrisers have won three Eastern Cape titles in four seasons.
They won their inaugural SA20 title in 2023 against Pretoria Capitals, successfully defended it the following season, and finished as runners-up in 2025 after losing the final to MI Cape Town.
