
ST JOHN’S: Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Monday announced the 15-man squad for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope will lead the two-time champions in the 20-team tournament as he returns to the team after losing the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan 2-1 in Dubai.
Apart from Hope, the experienced Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Sherfan Rutherford and Romario Sheppard are also back in the fold, further strengthening West Indies’ arsenal for the mega event.
“We have selected a team with balance, extensive experience and a touch of mystery. We have the X-factor, hungry freshmen pushing experienced heads, and a team ready to fight to make the region proud,” head coach Darren Sammy said in a statement.
“We have been thinking for a long time about what it takes to win in India and Sri Lanka and we have come up with the best squad to help us achieve that goal, we are confident,” he added.
The three-match series against South Africa, scheduled to run from Tuesday to January 31, will give the Caribbean team the finishing touches to preparations for the mega event.
Placed in Group C, West Indies will begin their 2026 T20 World Cup campaign against Scotland on February 7 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
They will then travel to Mumbai where they will lock horns with England and Nepal on February 11 and 15 respectively, while their final group-stage game is scheduled for February 19 against Italy in Kolkata.
