In yet another injury blow for South Africa ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, veteran batsman David Miller faces a race against time to recover from a suspected groin injury.

Miller sustained the injury while fielding during Paarl Royals’ SA20 clash against Joburg Super Kings on Monday. The left-hander, who left the field in the 16th over, did not participate in Royals’ run pile-up.

The exact nature and severity of Miller’s injury remains unclear. Speaking briefly after the match, the veteran batsman admitted to uncertainty about his status.

“I don’t know, we’ll see tomorrow when I wake up. Obviously not the best,” Miller said when asked about the injury.

Paarl Royals will face Joburg Super Kings again in the eliminator on Thursday. Meanwhile, South Africa will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Canada on February 9 in Ahmedabad.

Miller became the third injured player in South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad.

Earlier, Donovan Ferreira was ruled out of the ongoing SA20 with a shoulder fracture, while Tony De Sorgi is currently recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in December 2025.

Ferreira sustained the injury while fielding in the cover boundary for the Joburg Super Kings against the Pretoria Capitals on Saturday.

Trying to stop a boundary on the final ball of the innings, he dived at full length but landed miserably on his left shoulder with the ball still reaching the rope.

Despite the injury, Ferreira later came out to bat but faced only one delivery before retiring, injured.

South African medical staff are also closely monitoring De Georgie’s recovery. The left-hander is expected to return during the three-match T20I series against the West Indies later this month.

For the uninitiated, T20 World Cup 2026 will be held from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka.
