
Bulawayo: Half-centuries from Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhiyan Kundu and Vihaan Malhotra’s four-wicket haul led India to an 18-run victory over Bangladesh in the seventh match of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup 2026 at Queen’s Sport Club on Saturday.
India were bowled out for 238 as Al Fahad took five wickets in a match reduced to 49 overs apiece due to rain.
Wicketkeeper Batter Kundu top-scored for India anchoring a 112-ball 80 with 4 fours and 3 sixes while Suriyavanshi scored a blistering 72 off 67 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes.
Apart from them, middle-order batsman Kanishk Chauhan (28) and No.11 Deepesh Devendran (11) can score double centuries.
Fahad was the best bowler for Bangladesh with 5 wickets for 38 runs in his 9.2 overs, followed by Iqbal Hossain Emman and captain Azizul Hakeem with 2 wickets each and Sheikh Pervez Jibon with 1 wicket.
After another rain interruption, Bangladesh were set a target of 165 in 29 overs and they were all out for 146 in 28.3 overs.
Hakeem oversaw Bangladesh’s chase till the 25th over with an anchoring half-century and returned after scoring 51 off 72 balls with the help of 4 fours and a six.
He shared a 56-run partnership for the second wicket with opener Rifat Beck, who made a significant contribution with 37 runs a ball.
For India, Malhotra took 4 for 14 in his four overs, followed by Kilan Patel with 2 wickets and Kanishk Chauhan, Henil Patel and Devendran with a scalp each.
For his bowling exploits, Malhotra was adjudged Man of the Match.
Sri Lanka defeated Japan by 203 runs in Group C of the U19 World Cup at the Namibia Cricket Stadium in Windhoek.
Batting first, Sri Lanka amassed 387 for 4 in 50 overs with a formidable opening partnership between Dimantha Mahavidhana and Viran Samuditha who both scored centuries.
Samuditha scored 192 runs off 143 balls with 27 fours, including a six, the highest score by a marathon. Mahavidana on the other hand scored 115 runs off 125 balls with the help of 11 boundaries.
Chasing a tough target of 388, Japan could only manage 184/8 in 50 overs despite Hugo Kelly’s brilliant century.
Kelly came out to bat at No. 3, dismissed opener Nikhil Ball on the second delivery of the innings, carrying his bat full to score an unbeaten century, but his talent could not lead Japan to glory.
Kelly scored 101 runs off 162 balls with the help of six fours and a six, while fellow top-order batsman Nihar Parmar (23) scored other notable runs.
Sethmika Senaviratne, Jeevantha Sriram, Veeran Samuditha, Rashid Nimsara, Vigneshwaran Akash and Samika Heenathikala took one wicket each for the Sri Lankan side.
