MELBOURNE: Right-arm opener Finn Allen scored a superb century as Perth Scorchers won by 50 runs against Melbourne Renegades in Match 36 of the Big Bash League (PBL) 2025-26 at the Docklands Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first, the visitors piled up a mammoth total of 219/7 with Allen’s blitz on the board.

The New Zealand international oversaw the Scorchers’ innings till the fourth ball of the 17th over and returned after top-scoring with 101 off 53 balls with 8 sixes and 5 fours.

For his incredible century, Allen was adjudged man of the match.

Apart from him, Aaron Hardy (22), Laurie Evans (21) and Mitchell Marsh (20) contributed significantly to the Scorchers’ total.

Sam Elliott was the standout bowler for the Renegades, taking 4 for 28 from his three overs, while Adam Zampa, Brendan Doggett and captain Will Sutherland managed a scalp each.

Chasing a tough target of 220, the Renegades managed to post 169/7 in 20 overs despite Tim Seifert’s half-century.

Seifert hit 66 off 43 balls with 4 sixes and several fours, while Jake Fraser-McCurk scored 42 off 18 balls with 5 sixes and 2 fours.

However, a flop in the middle order halted the flow of runs and eventually the Renegades fell by 50 runs.

For the Scorchers, Cooper Connolly and Mahli Beardman claimed two wickets each, while Hardy and Luke Holt each had a strike.

The 50-run win lifted the Perth Scorchers to second place in the PBL 2025-26 standings with 12 points from nine matches, beating Melbourne Stars on account of a better net run rate.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne Renegades, already out of playoff contention, remain in seventh place with six points from nine games.
